Instaling the New for Mac Moonglow Bay: A Journey into Edible Plants

As we bid farewell to Stephen Facciola, author of Cornucopia II: A Sourcebook of Edible Plants, we are reminded of the significance of his monumental work on the world's edible plants. His passing is a great loss, and it's a testament to his dedication that he was aware it would take 20-30 years to complete his work when he first shared his vision with us.

In his honor, I'd like to share my own journey into the world of edible plants, which has been greatly influenced by Facciola's invaluable reference book. As an artist, I often find inspiration in nature and its bounty. Edible plants have become a fascination for me, not just as a source of sustenance but also as a means to connect with the natural world.

As part of my artistic process, I've been experimenting with color palettes, inspired by the diverse hues found in nature. Recently, I've been working on creating a new grey mix using the Moonglow Bay range for Mac. It's an intriguing blend that combines Cerulean Blue Chromium, a touch of Monte Amiata Natural Sienna, and a hint of Quinacridone Rose.

My approach to mixing colors is perhaps unscientific, but it works for me. I like to think of it as a meditative process, where I allow the colors to guide me towards creating something new and unique. I often start by getting a rough feel for the proportions of each color, then simply squeeze a little bit of each into an empty pan and mix it with a toothpick.

The result is a soft, muted grey that I've come to call 'Soft Grey.' It's perfect for shaded areas or when I want to add depth to my artwork without overpowering the other colors. The best part is that it's pre-mixed in a full pan, making it easy to use whenever I need it.

I'm grateful to Jane Blundell and her Jane's Grey for inspiring me to pre-mix colors. It's a technique that has revolutionized my approach to color mixing and allowed me to focus on other aspects of my art.
